Te Kairanga Estate Pinot Noir 2006 |

|
This wine continues in our approachable Estate Pinot Noir style and vinted using fruit from our vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace.
2006 was one of Martinborough’s best for pinot noir with a classic warm summer that extended through the autumn to harvest. Vine health was excellent leading to the fruit to be harvested at optimum maturity, ripeness and flavour. Fruit was harvested as individual parcels from the different sites. Each parcel was picked in ideal conditions and then fermented separately in the winery. The use of gravity to move fruit and must has eliminated pumping benefiting in maintaining quality. Traditional fermentation methods were used; the gentle plunging ensured excellent extraction of colour and tannins and blending just prior to bottling allowed a combination of clones, vineyard sites and barrel treatments to ensure this wine reflects the terroir.
A lovely Dark Ruby colour assaults your eye straight away. The nose shows aromas of plums, mocha with floral notes dominating.
An underlying spicy/cinnamon complexity is already evident at this early age and will develop savoury, gamey characters with bottle age. The Palate is sweet fruit dominating with softness and balance. Silky tannin structure accentuates the fruit elegance giving a beautifully integrated and balanced wine.
