dArenberg The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
The High Trellis shines with a brilliant plum sheen. the nose has the sweetness of blackcurrant jubes meshed with a wonderful herbaceousness of dried oregano. The mouth oozes delicious fruit tannins and finishes with a finely grained texture from the delicate lashings of oak. I'm always a fan of d'Arenberg Cab and this vintage does not disappoint.
d'Arenberg are proving themselves to be kings of the premium table wine. Again and again offering up top notch wines at unbelievable prices.
Awards and Accolades
2014 Vintage: GOLD - Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2016
2014 Vintage: 95 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Crushed and destemmed, open-fermented with heading down boards, 2-3 weeks on skins, matured for 22 months in French oak (10% new). Deeply coloured; a prime example of the affinity between McLaren Vale and cabernet, even if the flavours are slightly left field and the wine does best in cooler vintages. It is medium to full-bodied, and the cassis and black olive fruit does have dark chocolate notes, and persistent tannins. Gold medal Adelaide Wine Show '16."
From the Winery
Small batches of grapes are gently crushed and then transferred to five tonne headed down open fermenters. These batches remain separate until final blending. Foot treading is undertaken two thirds of the way through fermentation. The wine is then basket pressed and transferred to old American oak barriques to complete fermentation. The barrel ferments are aged on lees, and there is no racking until final blending. This wine does not undertake fining or filtration prior to bottling.
