  Angove Family Crest Shiraz 2016

Angoves-fc-shiraz-15.gif

A powerful and dense - deep bulls blood red with purple hues herald your eyes like a beckoning Siren towards the first sip. Captivating notes and aromas of spice, cool white pepper, cashews, cherry and black chocolate precede a palate awash with flavour and depth. Dark chocolate and hints of sweet liquorice, red cherry/raspberry with mouth-filling presence and soft lingering tannins all make for compelling tasting over serious discussion as to how these guys do it for sooooo little?

Awards and Accolades

SILVER - Korea Wine Challenge 2017
SILVER - InterVin Wine Awards Canada
SILVER - London International Wine & Spirits Competition 2017

91 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Companion
"McLaren Vale Shiraz from mature vines across a range of vineyards. All fermented as while berries before being basket pressed to mostly older French oak. It's a supple shiraz with plum and blackberry notes melting effortlessly into smoky, cedary oak. It sits at the upper end of medium weight which, combined with its slinky softness, makes for effortless drinking."

90 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
"Fruit to the fore, a lick of cedary/chocolatey oak, a softness to the texture. It gives people what they want, no
questions asked, no needless fi nessin’. Weight of fl avour here is adequate without being anything to write
home about, but it gets the job done. Price, style, texture and delivery of fl avour here are all right in the slot.”

2015 Vintage: Top 100 DOUBLE BLUE GOLD - Sydney International Wine Competition 2017

From the Winery

The maritime influenced climate of McLaren Vale and ancient soils provide the ideal conditions to grow premium Shiraz. Sourced from a careful selection of vineyards across the region from Blewitt Springs and Seaview in the North through Willunga and on to Sellicks Hill in the South. This range of sites vary greatly in soil, aspect and age of vine to create a wine of complexity that truly refl ects the character of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

These grapes are brought into our Vintage House, the oldest part of our winery, and crushed into 70 year old concrete vats where the fermentation is initiated by the indigenous “wild” yeasts found on the grape skins. Careful extraction and short post fermentation maceration is followed by pressing. The resultant wine is transferred to French and American oak Hogheads (300L barrels) where the malolactic fermentation is completed before racking and maturation for 14-16 months. A careful assemblage and barrel selection is followed by minimal filtration and bottling.
