Here is a another rich, ripe, highly smashable wine from The Willows Vineyard that is bound to satisfy the in-laws over roast lamb at Sunday lunch. Blackberries, black pepper, dark chocolate and fleshy plums decorate the nose, and then jump onto the full-bodied palate to show up in the flavours. It brings along toasty oak and fine, ripe tannins for the ride before giving way to a smooth, plummy, sweet fruit finish.
Accolades and Awards:
90 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "A ripe, rich and no-frills expression of Barossa shiraz which has spent time in American and French oak. Earthy, tarry aromas are an expression of the vineyard, with dark plummy fruit showing typical varietal character. A hint of alcohol warmth (it sits at 14.9% alcohol) is a bit of a distraction, but will go mostly unnoticed when partnered with hearty food, as it's likely to be."
From the Winery
The Barossa`s international reputation for concentrated, powerful Shiraz with great palate length and softness is borne out in this wine. Dense, vibrant colour is a feature of this brooding beauty, along with ripe, sweet fruit, reminiscent of plum, blackberry and pepper on the nose. Two years maturation in American and French Oak hogshead barrels has enhanced and complimented the robust fleshy fruit. The palate is generous, ripe and mouth filling exhibiting berry and cinnamon spice flavours, along with oak-derived mocha overtones and harmonious, soft, yet defined tannins.
