Sourced from the Tamar River in Northern Tasmania, Holm Oak Vineyards have gained a reputation for producing high-quality cool climate wines.
The 2016 Chardonnay is refined and elegant with beautifully integrated oak notes. Initial aromas of apricot, white peach, subtle grapefruit and oaky spice precede a fine, minerally textured palate with underlying oak-derived notes of vanilla and faint butterscotch. The finish is lean and the aftertaste offers grapefruit and light citrus pith.
Awards and Accolades
95 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Wild-fermented in French oak (30% new), 30% mlf, matured for 9 months. The deliberate approach of early picking has worked, because there is substantial white peach to accompany the grapefruit/citrus flavours. The intensity of the flavours is such that it has completely absorbed the new French oak component. Seriously good value for a Tasmanian chardonnay made this way."
From the Winery
The fruit for this wine was whole bunch pressed to tank and allowed to settle without enzyme for 24 hours and then racked to barrel (30% new French oak). The wine was wild fermented and approximately 30% underwent malolactic fermentation to add texture and complexity. The wine was matured in oak for 10 months prior to bottling.
This is a refined and elegant cool climate Chardonnay. The nose displays aromas of citrus fruit, apricot kernel and white peach with spicy integrated oak, whilst the palate is fine and minerally.
