"Lovely clean blackberry fruit, with just a little spice; good flavour, and sure oak treatment; bright fruit on the medium-bodied palate; long and fine finish."92 Points"- James Halliday.
What a decision to have to make! Pay the school fees for those little darlings who can't even grunt properly, or simply reward yourself. Half price scoop in this time of austerity. A region synonymous with Cabernet, here is the booming alternative varietal from two time Jimmy Watson winner Wayne Stehbens.
What a packet ! Deep purple in colour this wine is really hitting its straps now and producing a far more complex elegance than just a ball tearing in your face jammy sweet fruit, drink any day of the week wine. Thought provoking, a catalyst to ponder what food would be best the wine displays enticing black pepper, deeply ripened Cherries, blackberries with the all too familiar smooth and encouraging dusty tannins I absolutely demand in a wine of this calibre. At this price be warned it will not last and you would simply hate to miss a smashing bargain so get what you can as quickly as you can and enjoy, laugh for tomorrow waits for no Man, Woman or Child!
Wine Maker's Notes...
Appearance :: Very deep plum with purple edges.
Nose :: An attractive array of ripe fruit flavours of raspberry, liquorice and plum with hints of spice, pepper and sweet maturation characters of vanilla and subtle char.
Palate :: A rich, rounded palate structure with ripe flavours of raspberry, plum and sweet spices with an underlying distinctive pepper of Coonawarra shiraz. Subtle vanilla and chocolate oak maturation tones combine with soft tannins adding to the wine’s generous length and lingering spicy finish.
"Right every time" Wine Pointer, Canada, 9th October 2008 Katnook does it right every time, and you can’t go wrong with this Shiraz at this price. It has the plush fruit you expect, with good structure and depth, and balance that delivers a quite elegant texture. Drink it with red meat, grilled or roasted.
Staff Tasting: Delightful nose of bitter dark chocolate, cinnamon, liquorice and blackberries. The palate is a nice mix of rich jubey raspberry, spicy chocolate and soft tannins. Dry, fairly short finish and another Coonawarra wine that benefits extremely well from decanting and a rest after transportation. Tasters: MM, BK, CN, TE.
