Quarry Road Pinot Noir 2004
Sensational NZ Pinot Noir (Canterbury)that is a stunning example of sensationally well made wine from the land of the long white cloud! Thoroughly agreeable Pinot, immediately appealing with its softness and silky texture. Oak is not excessive for the fruit. Nicely rounded-off and showing good Pinot characters; silky textured with some fantastic idiosyncratic terroir personality and plenty of life. A great wine to be enjoyed with food from now into 2008.

A typical cool climate burgundy style with excellent velvety depth of colour. A distinct varietal aroma of intense ripe raspberry and cherry flavours. The palate enhanced by the subtle use of oak is rich and round with great length and will develop greater complexity with cellaring.

Aromas of ripe raspberry and cherry on the palate there is good flavour
intensity and slightly jammy raspberry/ cherry flavours with some farmy overtones. Soft tannins and medium length finish. This wine has character and was very enjoyable.”

This could simpy be all you ever looked for in a Pinot Noir and had not been able to find!

The cold growing conditions of Beechworth in the Victorian Alps produce elegant, rich Pinot Noir. It’s a notoriously difficult variety to grow and a constant challenge for winemakers, but with careful clonal selection and the right terroir, it produces stunning medium to full bodied wines with layers of flavour and a velvety soft finish. It has a silky texture, juicy richness and supple tannins so typical of this style.

The vineyard was originally planted over ten years ago and is now fully mature producing luscious wines with richness and intensity. Along with our winemaker Chris I have decided to release this batch after only 12 months maturation while the youthful, red berry fruit freshness compliments the gamey, earthy complexity on the mid palate. It’s ready to be enjoyed now until 2012.

It’s a wonderfully food friendly wine that partners with a wide range of dishes but is outstanding with game, poultry and classic slow cooked casseroles

This deep plum coloured Pinot Noir is sourced from a cool year with a long ripening period which resulted in wines full of fruit. The punchy ripe cherry flavours were further enhanced in the winery using traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques such as wild yeast fermentation and extended lees contact in premium French oak.
These refined, distinctive wines are an excellent example of the region and with their seductive, rich fruit are designed to be consumed in their youth.

These tremendous winter & soon to come pre-spring afternoons followed by cooler evenings deserve a richer, longer finishing fuller bodied Pinot Noir of this cool climate caliber. A big, earthy nose reminiscent of the old Burgundy farm barnyard, backed by a delicious, fuller-bodied briary blackberry and earthy pithy cherry & savoury flavours lingering on the palate with a nice warm grip. Backed up with a bit of spice this wine really has some tremendous length. A lingering, perfectly balanced acidity makes this one an absolute winner for me. Stoke the fire, rub your hands, roast some duck and watch out for the delivery as a bottle disappears leaving only a very satisfied smile! Ahh, sweet winter contentment, kids having a sleep over at someone else's house and you have the wife to your self for a night. Life's good.

Clear, bright and dark cherry red in colour it has small berry characters on the palate. A superb mouh feel; plush with sweet fruit and although light bodied, packed with sweet spice and all things nice.
A very good Victorian Pinot that brings some wonderful deep redcurranth flavours together with some softer tannins and good length. Wonderful accompaiment to pasta and antipasto dishes or the weekend news paper and quite contemplation.

A lovely Dark Ruby colour assaults your eye straight away. The nose shows aromas of plums, mocha with floral notes dominating.

An underlying spicy/cinnamon complexity is already evident at this early age and will develop savoury, gamey characters with bottle age. The Palate is sweet fruit dominating with softness and balance. Silky tannin structure accentuates the fruit elegance giving a beautifully integrated and balanced wine.

I love this wine!
Martinborough Vineyard Te Tera Pinot Noir shows attractive ripe cherry fruits with savoury complexity in aroma. Fine tannins and supple oak complement the fruit, giving texture and length to the palate. An elegant Pinot Noir which is
approachable in style, and while enjoyable now, it will develop
further complexity if you wish to cellar it.

This younger vines pinot noir simply named Crimson is inspired by a love of rata and pohutukawa, New Zealand’s stunning native red-flowering ‘Christmas trees’. The 2006 has a nose of violets, ripe black cherry and spice. Underpinning the vibrant fruit is a supple, fine tannin structure, making this a luscious food wine. It is designed for drinking now, but will also be lovely for at least two to three years from the vintage.

Sales of this wine support the work of Project Crimson, the charitable conservation trust first established in 1990 to protect and plant rata and pohutukawa, then seriously endangered by possums and changing land use. The idea for Crimson to help promote and support their work grew from our on-going relationship with the trust on bush-block rata plantings.

AUG 2007 - Ata Rangi won the business category in the recent Wellington Region Conservation Awards "for an outstanding contribution and for incorporating conservation outcomes in Ata Rangi's business and for nurturing similar projects."

Kooyong is located on the Mornington Peninsula at Tuerong and focuses on
producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine; which are both suited to the
Peninsula’s cool maritime climate.

Aromatically fragrant and an approachable fruit driven wine. Dominated by red and black cherry with supporting earth and spice aromas this is an inviting wine from first pull of the cork. The palate is all cherry and spice notes with pronounced solid minerality. Currently the wine is very youthful with bright acidity and supporting firm but very fine tannins.
Showing plenty of promise for further development.

With careful cellaring, this wine has very good potential for ageing.

James Halliday Interpretation "Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of the highest calibre" The wine has a complex floral bouquet of dark cherry fruit, subtle new oak char and secondary barrel ferment winemaking characters. On the palate there is powerful dark cherry/black fruit flavours well integrated with savoury/spicy new French oak. The fine grained tannin structure helps provide excellent weight and character to the wine that will ensure the wine takes several years to reach its peak and then age gracefully with careful cellaring.

Halliday Rates this outfit with a five star acolade and although predominantly for thier idosyncratic and wonderfully complex Pinot Noir.

They say the following about this vinatage "A real attempt to create superfine walnut tannins that set good Burgundy above the new world lookalikes. We have continued with a couple of new viticultural techniques here to get more structure and greater physiological ripeness. Yields of one tonne per acre have ensured a highly concentrated palate. As usual, part of this wine is a selection of the best pinot barrels and part has been kept separate since harvest receiving "special treatment".

As a really complex attractive wine as this may be you are still going to have to provide some pretty smart food to compliment it so reach for the duck, great mates and chill out!
