The release of this Bordeaux Blend -'Meritage' is a stunner!A very bold rich, brick red colour with purple hues, the nose has delightful lifted blackberry and cassis. Just like Bordeaux, since it's made with the same grapes!! There's a rich, full aroma to it. Depending on the particular blend, it can be blackberry, black cherry, spices, chocolate, and vanilla. Most Meritages have the Bordeaux signature flavors - cigar box, rich fruits, with a hefty feel. It has to be a "high-end" wine for the winery - & it has to be a blend of certain grapes. These are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot. Just Yum!

Victoria's first vineyard, Yering Station, is located in the 'heart' of the Yarra Valley & led by Chief Winemaker Tom Carson. Honoured with the prestigious `Winemaker of the Year’ at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London, 2004. With blended styles like this showing a magnificent colour, depth of aromatic intensity and sublime flavours I ask the question where to next? This little smasher has licks of (66%) Cabernet and the balance spicy Shiraz all balanced beautifully with French Oak. A very long hot summer this year brought reduced berry size and accordingly some great zinging fruit intensity, which after some wonderful winemaking skills including hand plunging and open fermenters, cellaring is now showing terrific wine complexity, engaging fine tannin structures and powerful penetrating finish and length. It is one of those lovely sunny afternoons here this weekend and I am off to get me a bottle of this as I contemplate the onset of winter, school fees and the prices charged by those two major grocery chains and enjoy my fortunate luck in having this value in the warehouse to enjoy all weekend, without a petrol docket!

| This wine opens up with some very encouraging colour, a dense inky-purple with a perfumed nose displaying summer redcurrant, blackberry and chocolate and concentrated rich berry flavours. The palate is all upfront to begin and at once powerful, yet elegant with well-integrated fruit, some spicy French oak and fine-grained tannin to finish. The grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon have been blended with Merlot and were picked and crushed during the cool of night, thus ensuring the retention of varietal characters, while modern winemaking techniques were employed throughout. Cold maceration of the fruit prior to fermentation helped to bring out colour and the wine’s primary varietal characters – such as blackcurrant and herbal fruit flavours. While still fermenting, the wine was transferred onto medium toast, French oak where it then spent several months, giving the wine a subtle smoke and spice character and adding a further dimension the overall style. The inclusion of some high quality central Victorian fruit in the blend has improved both the colour and flavour profiles of the wine. |

| Here is a little beauty! Vibrant bold magenta colour. Cassis, black cherry and pepper aromas with green undertones. The cabernet component provides blackberry flavours, with the merlot adding spicy notes. The palate is enriched by vanillin oak characterThe wine was fermented on skins with a neutral yeast strain to maximise fruit and enhance the naturally gentle tannin structure. The wine was then soft pressed and underwent complete malolactic fermentation on a mix of French and American oak. The wine was aged on oak for five months, then blended and filtered prior to bottling. The 2004 vintage in the river regions commenced with a cooler Decemberand January, resulting in more elegant and higher quality red wines. The grapes were sourced predominantly from a number of vineyards in theMurray Darling and Swan Hill regions of Victoria. The fruit was harvested atnight when the temperature was coolest to retain maximum fruit flavour. |

Coal Black with voluminous amounts of sweet mulberry spicey with good amounts of vanillian oak to seduce you into a thoughtful expression of mid pallet mind drift as expressive tannin structure gives the overall wine backbone and structure.
Pretty good wine I would say and well reviewed by most wine writers, give this onto your short term cellar for the next 2-5 years. |

This enigmatic 'Founders Choice' Cabernet blend made me stop in my tracks! I took a deep breath and revisited the glass. The wine floods the mouth with concentrated blackcurrants and forest berries followed by savory elements and hints of mocha, held by a tight tannin tructure with fine grained cedary oak. It was disturbing to realise the depth of this Cabernet whilst still so young and offering so much more for the future. If it had been my son, I would send him straight over for the next MENSA class. This blend for the wine society of Canada is predominately Cabernet from the best vineyards and blended with some tempranillo that combines with sound smooth chocolaty Cabernet for grip, tannin and firm structure to provide an absolute bonza food wine.

Well it takes more than just marketing spin to develop magnificent blended wines that have appeal and repurchase likeability from the consumer and this premium range from Hungerford Hill is all of that and more. Shiraz (94%) & Viognier (6%) Brilliant scarlet red in colour with a nose of rich, spicy Shiraz aromas of raisins & pepper and lifted enticing floral Viognier. The palate has juicy, fleshy berry fruit flavours with subtle Viognier nuances & long, sweet tannins on the smooth finish. |

This will go down as a cracker of a vintage and has definitely brought out the best of this region and wine maker to produce a big GEM of a wine. A superbly rich, complex bouquet of ripe berries from the peppery Shiraz, with hints of musk and flowers in full bloom from the Viognier. Nice to see it is part of the overall aromatic canvass rather than being the dominant sensory indicator. A lot of wine drinkers are now enjoying the lifted notes and silkiness that a dash of Viognier adds to the picture. Drink Well! |

Normally selling for anywhere up to $30.00, I have secured a small parcel of wonderful Cabernet Merlot from cool climate Nagambie and it is yummy with a capital Y! Seamlessly integrated now with the perfect combinations of age and beauty. What was obviously big Cabernet fruit has now retreated with some age from its original aggressiveness and combined with full plummy Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot to provide some structural depth this wine has redefined itself with age. Cabernet tarry ness on the nose melds well with richer plum fruit. The cigar and chocolate flavours are very appealing and together with the touch of Petit Verdot the Bordeaux blend is complete, rich, lingering and sensational Value for Money! I hope you enjoy

| This is the fifth and largest release of ‘The Schnell’. The grapes come from 6 different growers. This year sees the largest percentage of Shiraz to date but it’s still very much true to style. The wine is a juicy, vibrant hugely appealing style. Aged 10 months in oak, 20% in new French and American oak, the balance in older and shaven oak. Deep in colour with warm berry fruits on a vibrant nose with spice and a touch of oak. It’s full bodied with a lovely rich texture. Vibrant berry and cherry fruit, with lots of spice, and creamy integrated oak this makes it really voluptuous. Hugely appealing and has that classic Magpie hallmark of great drinkability. |

Halliday Winery. This family has been at the coal face of producing sensational fruit for much bigger named wineries for decades now and the move to formalise thier own brand into the market is a very good one. Chalk Hill Sidetrack is an easy drinking full bodied wine packed full of jammy fruits and great oak integration. Sidetrack is a blend of 60% Shiraz 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Grenache and was aged in a mix of old and new tight grain French Oak.
The wine has a deep plum red colour, with a lifted berry fruit and caramel on the nose. The strong varietal fruit characters on the palate are supported by peppermint, chocolate and some earthy flavours, with a persistent finish. The wine will develop further in the bottle and with good cellaring will be enjoyed through to 2015. Wines sealed under screw cap will benefit from decanting prior to drinking 14.5% Alcohol.

In its youth d'Arry's Original display a bright magenta like brick red colour. This lovely, spicy, plumy red combines the succulent sweet fruit of Grenache and the depth and structure of Shiraz. A real charmer, with well-judged tannin grip. The nose invariably attacks with lifted spicy cinnamon plum, mulberry & prune aromas. Typically cherry, wild strawberry & lolly-like musk smells also, as well as tighter liquorice, spice, rosemary & fennel smells. Parker rates this at 91/100 and says..."‘One of my consistent favorites from d’Arenberg is their d’Arry’s Original, and the terrific 2004 is a super value. A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by beautiful blackberry, cassis, cherry, and licorice scents with hints of Provencal herbs and pepper in the background. This medium to full-bodied, front endloaded blend of Shiraz and Grenache possesses considerable fruit, body, and silky tannins as well as enough acidity to provide definition. Drink it over the next 3-4 years." |

94 Points Halliday Top 100 The weekend Australian Nov 2007
Accolades all round to some very serious intentions from this winery to produce passionately with an eye to flavour and intensity. Dark purple in colour, this wine delivers some very enticing aromas of dark olive, tobacco, coffee, chocolate liqueur along with some sweet notes of violets. Rich chocolate and berry flavour dominate the front palate with juicy fruits bound together with an abundance of acid and tannin. The Petit Verdot is providing the structural framework of tannin and aromatics, the Merlot the mid palate juiciness, the Cabernet the structure and the Cabernet franc the perfume.

The appearance is vibrant with red cherry centre and looks fabulous. Upon pouring, fragrant Grenache notes of violets, ripe red-fruit jams, spice, strawberry, cranberry and mulberry characters with flowery, earthy, liquorice, pot-pouri notes developing as the wine opens up. The palate is medium bodied, fleshy with a concentrated array of red berries, dark sweet plums, strawberries and spicy softness. Fruit sweetness takes hold midway through the palate and then explodes with fruit flavours and lively, ripe, gritty, fragrant tannins that linger on past the finish of the wine. Presently the wine is not as big as some previous years due to the cooler growing season but it’s clearly one of the more refined and elegant Custodians made for some time. The wine is perfectly balanced between fruit weight, level of concentration, tannins and acidity as your mouth quickly salivates for a second helping. That’s Grenache for you. |

2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show GOLD MEDAL class 20 Adelaide Review 2007 HOT 100 + selected in the TOP 10 The Advertiser - Adelaide 2007 TOP 100 Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine 91 pts. The past 14 vintages of ‘Bernoota’ have been awarded 9 TROPHIES, 29 GOLD MEDALS and numerous other awards.
Greg follet maximises the typical Mclaren Vale sweetness and fruit intensity in all his marvellous wines and each vintage typically explodes with fruit ripeness and seems blessed on all fronts.
His notes provide the following which I fully endorse having slipped a little bottle of this down the necks of some great friends the other night - Bernoota’ was the original name given to the homestead on the Lake Breeze property – it is an Aboriginal name for ‘camp among the gum trees’. The 2005 ‘Bernoota’ is a blend of Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), carefully selected from old vines on the Follett family vineyard.
The wine was fermented on skins in open static fermenters for 7-10 days, followed by maturation for 20 months in American and French oak barriques. The wine shows dark fruit characters of blackberry and plums, with a hint of spice and smoky oak aromas. The palate encompasses all of the trademark Langhorne Creek fruit sweetness and soft tannins. Although extremely palatable now, it will mature gracefully with correct cellaring for the next 8-10 years. |

| This red could easily be called their Estate Red. First made in 1993 it’s their answer to a good Cotes du Rhone Villages, although this is clearly a Barossan wine. The grapes come from six different growers and all these components really help to make this a complex balanced red. Aged 22 months in oak, and new oak is deliberately fairly minimal- around 20% both French and American. The majority is aged in a variety of 1-5 year old barrels, again both French and American. Classic cinnamon and clove spice on the nose. Ripe black cherry and plum too. The palate displays a real savoury meaty character. The fruit is soft, both red and black berry with lots of spice. A long meaty finish with some toasty oak. Full-flavoured with ripe tannins. |

Once again, Geoff Hardy has produced some very special, hand picked, low cropped premium, spicy shiraz from the Kuitpo Vineyards to be the majority shareholder in this blend alongside some very smart Viognier. Full, vibrant and deep inky dark colour spills from bottle to the glass almost promising excitement and flavour with punch!
Upfront aromas of Blueberry and blackberry with notes of oak spice and some appealing sweetness. The colour is a decent guide to the experience ahead with a moving feast exploding on the palate immediately followed by a never ending length and complete flood of spice and fruit richness to the mouth. A generous balance of oak and acidity here makes the components come to life as tannins are near perfect with this amount of fruit and I just know you are going to revel in your purchase with this wine. |

Halliday Rated Winery Classy and generous to a fault! Deep in colour and most inviting from the first splash into the glass. Almost at once there is a big enveloping aroma of blackberry and some fragrant spices. Warm and enticing to the lips this wine simply invades the mouth and fills delightfully to show structure, tannin and elegance all at the same time. Not sure exactly due to the age in bottle but the is drinking splendidly as of right now with the balance between Shiraz and the Viognier providing and perfect mix between sweet fruit and complexity.

The nose is rich and complex with layers of blackberry fruit, pepper and spice notes, and some mocha coffee elements coming from the oak.
The palate is tight and intensely fruity with bright blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant flavours running onto a sweet spicy finish. Excellent mid-palate structure, depth and fully ripe tannins define this wine and indicate it will reward short term cellaring. Drink NOW – 2012

| Bright purple / black with some purple tints. The Shiraz grape gives the wine ripe, sweet berry and a touch of pepper spice to the bouquet whilst the cabernet gives it depth of colour, rich blackberry fruits and soft tannins. A full bodied style with accent on fruit and not harsh tannins. The major accent is on complexity and finesse which will develop wonderful secondary characters over the next 5-7 years. Complexity is a combination of the two differing varieties, a range of different French oak used and the winemaking techniques employed during harvest. 32% new oak was used; both French and American which like the two varieties will greatly change the complexity of the wine. This wine has fragrant ripe berries and some leather and chocolate, the palate has obvious tannins but the sweet soft fragrant fruit gives great balance. |

David Dunn is an old time viticulturalist located in Rutherglen. His vineyard is a minuscule two acre property with the wine being made by Roland Kaval,at Warrabilla. For 26 years he was responsible for the vines at St.Leonards and All Saints and that shows in this monster ready for your table......Black red opaque bottle colour gives you a sense of foreboding as the saturation of inky black dares you to open it. Lifted nose of violet, deep tangelo fruits , liquorice as you remember it and some fine vanilla, delivering a delightful heady nose. The palate flavours are generous with smooth slightly sweet vanilla, spice, cherry. Excellent palate weight and length with Velvet tannins clinging to the background. Perfect balance. Simply a wonderful Rutherglen wine not to be missed. Rates at 94/100

Mark Day does very little by halves and this blend stopped me in my tracks at a recent tasting with the winemaker. McLaren Vale Shiraz (75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon from Adelaide Hills stick like glue together performing a superlative duet for the taste buds.
Bold Garnet in colour and an upfront nose of Black cherry, coconut and very enticing oak. Big is this wine in alcohol at 14.5% but squashed full of fruit and flavour that my taste buds were in zing mode for ages after the first shot of dramatic intensity had coursed through my palate. I'll let you know the secret here in that this perfect blend structure has amplified the source of power from sweet Shiraz fruit and structural formwork of the Cabernet to add some pretty impressive length and weight to a very impressive wine.
You won't see this around or amplified through the wine writers guild as Mark sells out his wines mainly in exports and direct sales to the small coterie of the wise Australian drinking public who know, understand and revel in a wine man doing his stuff! Buy it, drink it, Love it! |

Another very good value and consistently well made wine sourced from Mclaren Vale SA. Beguiling deep plum with brick red hues are the first signs you are in for a good dinner or lunch. Pop the top and away you go with immediate lifted aromas of fresh berry fruit, particularly mulberry, plump blackberry and raspberry, with hints of liquorice, cinnamon and juniper berries adding complexity. Succulent red berry fruits and ripe plums layer the palate and are balanced with subtle oak characters and velvety tannins. The wine has generous fruit weight, intensity and length, a true reflection of the 2006 vintage. A biggish 14.9% Alc but very moorish Indeed! |

The Butchers Block Red is a traditional Barossa blend made with grapes selected from the Turkey Flat vineyards, including some from the original old vine plantings. The 2006 vintage of Butchers Block Red is a blend of 56% Shiraz, 27% Grenache and 17% Mourvédre. The palate has rich sweet lifted fruits with a hint gaminess and creamy vanillin oak character. The tannin structure is long and restrained with a velvety finish. Halliday Rated 94/100 |

The Heinrich is of course named after Rolf Heinrich Binder, my father and founder of the family winery. I created this wine because of his love of the combination of shiraz, mataro and grenache.
Heinrich is an estate wine with the shiraz coming from the Stephanie vineyard, the mataro from the Chri'ro vineyard planted in 1972 both of which adjoin the winery and the grenache from the Western Ridge vineyard at Gomersal and planted in the early 1950's. |

A very impressive Medal winner already having taken out the Korean Gold Medal with plenty more to come.
The wine’s appearance is noticeably deep and dark, suggesting a complex full-bodied, oak matured wine. The aromas are very classic Cabernet with notes of exotic dark plums, mulberry, blackcurrants, fragrant cassis and an underlying mix of dark chocolate, cherries, cured meats and spiced violets. Green runner-bean and fine-toasted, French oak, cedar notes come through as the wine opens. The palate is ripe and has an impressive elegance upon entry and then you are struck with the overwhelming complexity and presence. Extremely juicy with a wonderful deep richness and structure. A mix of pure fruit with edges of exotic notes, immense structure and length with mineral acidity and fine lacy tannins directing the fruit. 2006 vintage is regarded as one of the largest vintages ever despite starting and finishing early. Overall quality was excellent for whites and reds. Cabernet Sauvignon was a particular highlight as flavours developed at a lower than normal beaume giving complexity and depth to the flavour profile. A dry winter followed by heavy rains in spring resulted in vines with healthy, balanced canopies on most soils. A mild, early summer leading into a warmer period during veraison stopped vegetative growth allowing vines to channel energy into the fruit. Cooler ripening condition followed veraison were ideal for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. Warmer conditions returned late February, early March which increased baumes and colour without eroding the wonderful fragrant fruit characters and levels of natural acidity.

94 Points James Halliday 2009 92 Points Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate- Australian Edition 2007
Once poured this wine is youthful and dark with a crimson hue. The aromas are loud and intense with the viognier having an impact throughout the wine. The wine has an initial mix of dark plummy fruits, spice and stone fruit characters with a mix of blueberries, plums, cured meats and flowery notes with white and green pepper characters. As the wine opens up further notes of blueberry, cranberry and lavender/black tea characters come through with a mix of ginger and flower blossom which indicates the fragrance of viognier. The palate is juicy and long and tastes superbly integrated for such a young, full bodied wine. There are plenty of bold shiraz characters dominated by black fruits, satsuma plums, blueberry and licorice notes and a lovely level of juiciness and wild honey sweetness from the Viognier. The finish is long and pointed and would suggest this wine will greatly benefit with further bottle aging. |

Great to see such a balanced, attractive, clean Trinders - it's a label that's had something of a roller-coaster ride over the past six or seven years. This release is a strong one. Dusty, gravelly, herbal and yet ripe, with dry blackcurrant swinging through a fine mesh of tannin. It finishes clean and fruity, and will cellar for at least 10 years - but will be at its best in the medium term. Drink: 2006-2015. 91 points. Campbell Mattinson, The Winefront |

Encounters with unblended Australian Mourvèdre are rare. This is Turkey Flat’s first varietal Mourvèdre. The wine produced from Mourvédre’s small, sweet, thick-skinned berries tend to be deeply coloured, rich in spice, high in alcohol and tannin, gamey when young and full of fruit. A vibrant cherry red in colour, with delicate floral rose petal, spice and white pepper aromas, this wine is elegant and restrained, with a softer palate than the previous vintage. Well structured, with soft tannins, the palate is mouth-filling and approachable, with delicate berry, spice and pepper flavours, and a long smooth finish. It is drinking very well now, and is an ideal accompaniment to Eastern style spice tangines and curries.

The 2002 vintage produced great Cabernet Sauvignon: the Barossa experienced the coolest summer on record, so that ripening conditions were perfect for this noble red wine variety. Chief Winemaker, Andrew Wigan, has proclaimed the 2002 vintage as the greatest Barossa Cabernet vintage of his 30 year winemaking career. This wine is a complex blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 10% Shiraz, 8% Malbec. Sourced from The Stonewell, Ebenezer and Light Pass districts of the Barossa Valley. The Colour has a dense black centre with a dark red/garnet rim. The nose is an exciting mélange of mixed spice, wild violets, hints of mint and black currants. The richness and depth of the fruit is a seamless blend. A wine of great power and length, it shows a superb balance between the fruit and the fine-grained tannins. A distinguished wine of great dignity and is only a very limited release. Wood: Fermented and thence matured for 18 months in new French oak hogsheads. Cellaring: It can be cellared with confidence for a further 10 plus years. Alc/Vol: 14.0% |

An Australian wine with obvious Rhône Valley pretensions. Its spicy, meaty aromas of violets, blackberries, plums and undergrowth are laced with a perfume of cloves and cinnamon, with underlying suggestions of cured meats. Elegant and fine-grained despite its remarkable opulence and complexity, its juicy, fleshy palate of licorice-like red and black fruits culminates in a very long and savoury finish of lingering intensity. First-rate balance and integration.

The 2006 Steading is composed from the traditional Barossa cultivars of Grenache, It has long been David Powell’s favourite wine within the Torbreck stable because of the old, gnarled ‘bush vines’ that produce its core. Deep ruby with flickers of violet, its delicate aromas of truffle, five spice and spring flowers are supported by a rich core of framboise, licorice, saddle leather and Provencal herbs. Very ‘Burgundian’ in style, the palate is elegant and pure with subtle notes of crushed cherries, earth and cedar all neatly wound by a taught spine of acidity and ripe supple tannins. The 2006 Steading will continue to unfold with time in the cellar & shall provide those with the patience great enjoyment for many years to come.On a highland farm the collection of barns, stables and outbuildings own right. However, in blending, their strengths create a complex wine of solid earthy structure.’ |

| Balance is a key feature in all Penley wines. This ensures the wine will mature successfully in the bottle. Coupling Australia’s rich flavours, it can be drunk whenever the mood dictates. Inherent in the Penley style is soft balance but this should not detract from ageing potential. The wine is made with bottle age in mind. Intense tannin, acid and flavour components are elements required. It is a strong held belief that these components need to be in balance, not just in place, for a wine to mature in bottle. The Chertsey is made from 100% estate grown fruit and is also non filtered, which gives the wine greater complexity. |

DESCENDANT It’s made off relatively young vines but this release is the breakthrough vintage for this label – the mammoth, concentrated, overwhelming power of this wine says anything but immaturity. It’s a monster. But an exceptionally pure monster. Full of warm, floral, plummy, porty fruit with a nutty aftertaste and a carve of finely tailored tannins. It makes you sit straighter in your chair. It is over the top, but it is as fine as such a style can be. Drink: 2012-2028. 95 points. Winefront Monthly - February 2006 |
